A Brief History
The Peterborough Downtown Farmers’ Market has been the best place to buy local produce and products in Downtown Peterborough since 1997. The market, initially located on Charlotte Street between Water and George Streets, moved to the Louis Street Parking Lot in 2011. The market expanded with that move, and now has over 50 stalls and 33 vendors at peak season. In 2018 the market will move onto Charlotte St. between Louis and George in anticipation of our move back to the Urban Park in the old Louis St. Lot location.
Producers Only Market
As a producers only market, shoppers can be sure that they are purchasing directly from the farmers, bakers, and producers themselves. Not only do shoppers help support our local economy, they can also be assured they are buying the freshest seasonal products available in the region.
The Peterborough Downtown Farmers’ Market is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board are all vendors at the market, and are elected by the wider membership of market vendors. Board members are dedicated volunteers. They oversee the vendor selection process, keep financial records, do long-term planning, and help out with special events. Our Market Manager oversees daily operations of the market, coordinates special events, and is the main point of contact for vendor applications, community involvement and market patrons.
