The Peterborough Downtown Farmers’ Market will be handing out freshly boiled cobs of corn generously donated by Fishers’ Farms. Guest Chef Lorianne Cicchillo will also be joining us to make up a sample showcasing corn. Join us to get recipe ideas, try some local corn and celebrate this delicious late summer vegetable. Corn will be handed out between 10:00-1:00 or while supplies last.
Four local Chefs will be given identical baskets of fresh market products. They will be given 1.5 hours to make up a delicious meal using all of the items in the basket. They will be judged by 3 local judges based on creative use of basket goods, presentation and of course taste. The popular annual event is hosted by Downtown Culinary Tour’s Donald Fraser. Market customers gain creative ideas on how to utilize market goods and are able to watch some of our areas finest Chefs at work. This year our defending champion Geoff Kirkland of Lantern Restaurant, will face off against Lisa Dixon of Black Honey, Steve Elmhirst of Elmhirst Resort and one surprise TBA Chef.
Winner gets bragging rights and will return the following season to defend their title.
September 23rd: Nourish Apple Cider Press Demonstration
We will have a cider press available, and will be demonstrating how you can make your own apple cider using fresh apples from the market (and around the area). Come on down to try your hand and learn how apple cider is made. You can try some out as well.
The Downtown Farmers’ Market welcomes back Brad Watt as our Guest Chef. Using products donated from market vendors Brad will showcase how to use some of the amazing fall produce and other products available at market, and give market-goers the chance to sample his amazing cooking.
